we heal in garden
we heal in the garden is a documentation of Caribbean herbal stories and recipes that are shared to heal each other in whichever way we need it. This project is a vessel to unearth stories and recipes that are passed down through chosen family, lineage, and loved ones. How do our healing journeys connect us back to our bodies, communities, and earth? Each textile and sand body sculpture is partnered with different herbal remedies that heal ailments in that body part with ceramic and textile replicas of Caribbean household items used to collect, cook and store the herbs and remedies. I am grateful and honoured to have collaborated with everyone that took part in this project. ya'll really made this possible!!
All the body sculptures were in collaboration with Ashleigh-Rae, Indigo, Saysah, Dani, Alex, Casandra, Iesha, Nailah, Bria, Carmahn. The stories and recipes that have been shared throughout this journey are from Bria, Saba, Kamika, Nautica, Abi, Sapphire, Rosie, Jess, Miles, Carah, Leah, Ingrid. Thank you to Nyda for making the indigo textiles on the mounds that are adorned with bead shells, seeds and various patterns.
