WILL IT GROW?
January 2020 - art performance
What would happen if textiles had seeds? Will it grow? How can we minimize textile waste? With these questions in mind, this art performance explores different methods of the future of textiles carrying seeds that will repopulate ecological areas.
This exploration is seeking answers to my questions regarding textile innovation to stop textile waste and reshape the way waste can be used
In this performance, I try three different methods by using linen with pine sap glue as an adhesive with Cornflower and Tip Top Orange Nasturtium seeds. The methods include; cutting the linen in a rectangle and sewing the seeds, gluing the seeds onto the linen and shredding the linen and gluing the seeds.
Materials used: Cornflower and Tip Top Orange Nasturtium Seeds, Pine Sap Glue, Soil and Linen
GROWTH
March 2020 - Photograph
After 2 months since the inception of sowing the seeds within the linen, two of the three plants have stepped into germination and now are in the growth stage. The pot with the Cornflower seeds and shredded linen did not survive germination. As a result, the Tip Top Orange Nasturtium Seeds has entered the growth stage and with this formation, a future can be truly imagined that the cycle of textiles can not only end at harmful waste and pollution but create a new life while using bio-degradable textiles.
